Innovative farm comes to Arlington
An innovative, indoor farm is opening in Arlington County.
Area 2 Farms will operate as an organic, indoor farm and retail store.
The farm will utilize new technologies like microrobotics to manage heat and humidity.
They will also use up to 25% less LED lighting than other indoor farms.
Over the next three years, the farm plans to hire 30 employees and generate $3.6 million of Virginia grown produce.
The Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services along with Arlington County secured a $40,000 grant for the project from the Governor Youngkin’s Agriculture and Forestry Industries Development Fund which will be matched by Arlington County.
Warren County appoints new Fire Chief
Warren County Fire and Rescue Services (WCFRS) announced the appointment of James Bonzano, II, as their new Fire Chief.
Bonzano joins Warren County from Arlington County where he served in the Arlington County Fire Department (ACFD) in progressively more responsible leadership roles over 34 years.
Bonzano has been Acting Assistant Chief, South Deputy Chief, Personnel Services Section Chief, and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Battalion Chief.
Warren County’s board of supervisors voted in favor of the appointment yesterday.
