Authorities respond to a barricade situation in Luray

Virginia State Police (VSP) report by email a barricade situation in Luray on Monday Sept. 26.

VSP along with the Luray Police Department and Page County Sheriff’s Office responded to the situation starting around 5 a.m..

There was never any immediate threat to the general public.

By approximately 9:45 the VSP Tactical Team executed a search warrant and were able to take an unidentified male and female into custody without further incident.

Other Emergency Personnel were also dispatched as a precautionary measure but no one was injured in the incident.

Several emergency vehicles from a variety of agencies were on scene for approximately 5 hours through Monday morning.

The incident remains under investigation by VSP and the Page County Authorities with additional information expected after the completed investigation.

FCSO responds to barricade situation in Stephens City

Responding to a domestic assault the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO) reported to Gate Stone Lane Stephens City.

Arriving on the scene authorities found the subject physically assaulted his mate and was in possession of a handgun threatening to kill himself while barricaded in a residence.

After setting up a perimeter authorities attempted to contact the male but were met with no response.

At approximately 10:50 a.m. SWAT members entered the home and confirmed that 46 year old Stephen Griffitt was deceased.

The perimeter was cleared while investigators began processing the scene at 11:30 a.m. yesterday Jun. 13.

Preliminary indications are that Griffitt died from a self inflected gun shot.

FCSO responds to another barricade situation

Frederick County Sheriff’s Office responded to a second barricade situation this year.

Michael McGhee got into an argument with a female in a residence on Martinsburg Pike.

McGhee told the woman  that he wanted to kill himself.

The female fled the residence taking the couple’s 6 year old with her.

Calling police she informed them that McGhee  had been drinking had a hunting type rifle and had fired a shot inside the home.

After attempts to talk the subject out failed chemical agents were deployed twice.

McGhee finally surrendered without further incident and is being held in the Adult Detention Center without bond.
