FCSO officer named guest speaker at Distracted Driving Summit

The 10th Annual Distracted Driving Summit by Drive Smart Virginia is getting ready for their event in Blacksburg this September and recently announced one of their guest speakers.

Frederick County Sheriff’s Office Lieutenant Warren Gosnell was added to the list of special guests to speak at the event.

Lt. Gosnell was chosen thanks to his 26 years of experience in law enforcement with an emphasis on traffic safety and enforcement.

The summit will focus on how Virginia can reverse the trend of an increase in distracted driving cases around the state since 2020.

While the event is aimed towards police officers and first responders, it is open to any community member who would like to attend.

A Blacksburg shooting reported on Saturday April 16, 2022

ABC News reports one person was injured in a shooting in Blacksburg early this past Saturday Apr. 16, 2022.

Around 1:45 a.m. police responded to a report of shots being fired in the Hunt Club Drive vicinity.

One person was taken to the hospital and treated for a gunshot wound and then released.

The person responsible for the shooting remains at large with no immediate threat suspected by police.

Shooting in Blacksburg leaves 1 dead 4 injured

Before midnight last night, Blacksburg Police responded to a shots fired report at a hookah lounge.

One person was killed and four others were injured including one Virginia Tech student.

The injured individuals were transported to the hospital and the extent of their injuries is unknown.

The names of the victims have not been released and the investigation is still ongoing.

No arrests have been announced at the moment but authorities were pursuing up to four suspects.

The campus ended lock-down orders at 3:18 AM but urged students to avoid downtown.
