The Handley Regional Library System is removing overdue fines from most children’s materials including books, CDs, audio-books, and DVDs regardless of the age of the person checking them out.
The items are still required to be returned.
John Huddy, the director of the Library System believes this will “improve literacy for the youth in our area and remove any barriers that our patrons may have to get access to our materials.”
Evidence has been cited by the American Library Association that eliminating fines increases sign up and library use.
