Mets Sweep Nats In Twinbill, O’s Lose Game And Davis, WFT Drops Opener
Pete Alonso’s walk-off home run in the bottom of the 7th gave the New York Mets a 5-4 win and a a doubleheader sweep over the Washington Nationals yesterday. In the opener, Brandon Nimmo drove in all 4 Mets’ runs in a 4-1 win over the Nats. The Nationals, who have now lost 9 of their last 10, will host the Atlanta Braves in a weekend series starting tonight at 7:05 on Sports Radio 1450.
The Baltimore Orioles dropped a 6-4 decision to Detroit ysterday, as the Tigers completed a 3-game sweep. The Orioles also lost first baseman Chris Davis, who announced his retirement, citing injuries and his recent hip surgery. The announcement comes as Davis still has one year remaining on his franchise-record 7-year, $161 million contract. Davis led the majors in home runs twice, including 53 in 2013.
And the New England subs scored 13 points in the 4th quarter to top the Washington Football Team 22-13 in the NFL Preseason opener for both teams. Washington starting quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick was solid in his brief time on the field, completing 5 of 8 passes for 58 yards. WFT defensive standout Chase Young added a sack in his limited action. Washington will now host Cincinnati next Friday at 8.
