Shenandoah County construction worker rescued
Thursday afternoon, Shenandoah County Emergency Communications Center received a 911 call about a construction worker trapped in an excavated ditch.
Before the arrival of emergency personnel, coworkers of the victim tried to remove dirt and perform rescue breaths.
Responders from the Harrisonburg-Rockingham County Technical Rescue Team aided in the recovery where they first stabilized the walls of the ditch before removing the victim 2 and a half hours after the initial incident.
Numerous fire and rescue departments from Edinburg, Woodstock, Mt. Jackson, and Shenandoah County aided in the rescue as well.
The victim was transported to UVA medical center via helicopter with non-life-threatening injuries.
