Remains identified in Augusta County

Authorities have confirmed and identified remains that were unearthed by a contactor in the 1600 block of Tinkling Springs Road in Augusta County.

After an examination by the Chief Medical Examiner’s Office, the remains were confirmed to be human and dated back to the late 1800s-early 1900s.

The remains appear to be that of a child who passed away and was buried in a coffin in an unmarked grave.

The Augusta County Sheriff’s Office thanked all agencies involved in the investigation.

The agencies are saddened by the discovery but thankful they were not connected with any current criminal activity.
