History for the hungry event
A new “Hungry for History” Event explores history and food traditions of Winchester, Frederick County, and Clarke County, Virginia from August 26-September 4, 2023.
Fifteen locations including museums, historic organizations, and community sites will come together to showcase the area’s historical food traditions.
Four restaurants and a brewery will also participate with historic recipes and special programs.
There will be presentations, demonstrations, how-to classes, children’s activities, food tastings, special handouts and giveaways, special tours, agriculture related programs and more.
Dates and times for the activities vary depending on the site. Many of the activities are free of charge.

SVBF holds New Market commemoration
The Shenandoah Valley Battlefields Foundation has a series of programs to commemorate the 157 anniversary of the battle of New Market.
Various programs and demonstrations are planned beginning as early as 9 a.m. tomorrow May 15.
All programs are free but pre-registration is required to help organizers with logistics and planning.

Belle Grove Plantation host living history demonstration
The Cider Creek Battlefield Foundation presents a living history weekend at Belle Grove Plantation Middletown.
Historians will demonstrate many aspects of life in from the mid-19 century.
Demonstrations will be available for the family with historians in full dress from the period.
Demonstrations include period photography, a recruit muster, practice drill, games, cooking class and more.
Activities begin early tomorrow May 15 and last through the weekend.
