American Red Cross is in need of donors

battle of the badges blood drive

The American Red Cross reports once again a steep blood shortage this summer.

A number of drives are scheduled for the month of August with several open appointments.

A full 6 hour drive will be held at the Stephens City Fire Department on August 12 from noon to 6 p.m..

The drive is the annual Beef Up the Blood Supply event sponsored by Gore’s Meats.

Donors will be treated to a burger with a chance to win a Gore’s cooler bag and gift cards.

The American Red Cross is in urgent need of donors and knows that appointments are often filled at the last minute.

Lisa Wilt of the American Red Cross urges donors to make that appointment in advance so the Red Cross knows what to expect when it comes to supply.

Wilt also reminds us to cancel the appointment at that website if you can’t make it so the slot opens for someone else.

Appointments for the Beef Up the Blood Supply event can be made at redcrossblood.org using the zip code 22655 or the code GMP.

Wilt the American Red Cross and Frederick County Sheriff’s Office and Fire and Rescue are grateful for the donations given during the annual battle of the badges drive.

The group exceeded the donation quota which helps tremendously with supply.

The Frederick County Sheriff’s Office is particularly grateful for the support as once again for the second year in a row they took the trophy for the most donations in the July 8 event.
