Fun Fact February 7, 2022.
According to History dot com, it was on this date in 1964 that “beatlemania” took hold of America. Pan Am Yankee Clipper flight 101 from London’s Heathrow Airport arrived in New York at Kennedy Airport. The “Fab Four” had the number one song on American radio with “I Want To Hold Your Hand.” About 3000 screaming fans greeted the lads from Liverpool who were dressed in their mod suits and sporting their pudding bowl haircuts. Two days later the group made their American television debut on The Ed Sullivan show. The performance could barely be heard over the screams of the studio audience. About 73 million television viewers, nearly 40% of the US population, tuned in. Sullivan booked the band for two more appearances later in the month. The group made their first public concert appearance in the United States on February 11, in front of 20,000 fans, at the Coliseum in Washington, D.C.. The next day, they gave two back-to-back performances at New York’s Carnegie Hall. Police were forced to close off the streets around the music hall because of fan hysteria. On February 22, the Beatles returned to England. Listen to the podcast here; https://theriver953.com/lonnies-fun-fact/
