The Winchester Fire and Rescue Department (WFRD) once again find properly maintained fire suppression equipment saves the day.

On August 10 WFRD crews report that they were called to a structure fire in the 100 block of East James Street.

Crews arrived to find smoke coming from the side of a home.

The resident of an adjacent apartment was able to extinguish the fire with an extinguisher preventing more damage.

The fire was believed to be caused by an electrical panel in the bathroom.

Fire crews completed a check of the home to ensure there was no extension into any other part of the house.

One person had to be evaluated at the scene but did not require transportation to a medical facility.

No other injuries were reported in the incident.

Having properly maintained fire suppression equipment and making sure your electrical system is inspected by a certified electrician periodically are important factors in preventing tragedy.

This incident occurred just days after another family was saved by properly kept smoke alarms and fire extinguishers.

For information on how to keep this equipment in proper order contact your local fire department.
