Governor Glenn Younkin Issues Stricter Phone Use In K-12 Education

Governor Glenn Youngkin has issued an executive order to establish cell-phone free education in Virginia’s K-12 public schools.

Given increasing evidence of the impact cell-phones and social media usage has had on education and mental health in the youth.

Youngkin issued Executive Order 33, which directs the Virginia Department of Education (VDEO) to adopt local policies establishing cell-phone free education.

The Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) is encouraged to engage efforts with parents, students, teachers and more to develop procedures that establish age-appropriate restrictions to cell-phone use during instructional time.
