VSP launches cold case website

Virginia State Police launched a pilot website in June with a number of “cold cases” throughout the state.

Since the start of the website, it has grown to include 44 unsolved homicides, nine missing persons, and seven unidentified persons reports.

State police have trained 19 local police and sheriff’s offices on how to access and upload cases.

The website is also available to the public and includes a searchable database with photographs, information, and who to contact for unsolved homicide, missing or unidentified person cases that have been unsolved for at least 5 years.

The database was created following legislation passed in 2020 that was sponsored by Virginia Delegate Danica Roem.
