An email from Lord Fairfax Community College (LFCC) announced that the school received a $5,000 grant.

The funds will be used to bolster the food pantries at the Middletown and Fauquier Campuses.

According to the email a recent survey shows that one third of community college students suffer from food insecurity.

Over 63 percent those students don’t apply for benefits because they don’t know they are eligible.

The food pantries at any of the LFCC campuses are available to any student regardless of their financial status.

The $5,000 grant will stock the pantries with food and hygiene products for students as well.

The funds were awarded to LFCC through a grant from the chain of checks campaign the Community Foundation of the Shenandoah Valley serves as fiscal agents for chain of checks.
