Fun Fact July 13, 2021.
Tool time Tuesday. Today we’re picking up the digging bar. I used one of these over the weekend in the continuing sidewalk project at my house. Digging Bars are typically 5 to 6 feet long and weigh between 15 to 23 pounds. They are usually made entirely of cylindrical or hexagonal forged steel with a diameter of approximately 1 inch. Chisel and wedge ends typically have a blade width measuring 1 to 3 inches. Opposite of the chisel end is a blunt end, typically with a diameter of 2 to 3 inches. As the name implies, it is used for digging, removing rocks, cutting roots and breaking up various material. The round head can be used as a hand hold, a place to hit with a sledge hammer to help drive the wedge and, when you flip the bar over, used to tamp and pack dirt around the base of a post or compacting and crushing other material. A digging bar works great, but also greatly works the worker. Or maybe, just me.
