Former Martinsburg Mayor Harriet Johnson was laid to rest yesterday Jul. 14 after a little over a year in the position.

The city’s first female mayor passed away suddenly at the age of 72 last week.

Martinsburg City Council members are collecting letters of citizens who are interested in being her successor.

To be considered you have to have been a Martinsburg resident for at least a year as well as a registered voter.
