Former Washington and Denver Football player and 2002 rookie of the year Clinton Portis has been sentenced to six months in prison and six months home confinement.

ESPN reports that Portis pleaded guilty in Sept. following charges that he obtained nearly $100,000 in false claims for medical equipment that was not delivered.

Portis was part of a ring of former players who appears to have filed false reimbursement claims totaling about $2.6 million.

The Gene Upshaw NFL Player Health Reimbursement Account Plan appears to be the target of the ring.

The Gene Upshaw Plan was designed to help retired players pay for medical expenses.
