The Frederick County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents of a scam involving the impersonation of an officer.

The person states that they are a member of the department and need to speak with you regarding a legal matter.

The number regularly used in the scam is 540-268-0424 and the person claims to be “Officer Bishop.”

The person attempts to get the victim to pay legal fees or bail using a gift card which is not a way that any law enforcement agency would ask for payment.

If you ever receive a call you are unsure about, tell them you are hanging up and calling the office directly to be connected with the officer.
