Juneteenth celebrations in the Valley
Juneteenth celebrations are taking place throughout the Valley this weekend.
Hood-Love and the Handley Black Student Union hosted speakers and had live music at the Civil War Museum Friday evening.
The Clarke County Fairgrounds will hold a Freedom Day Celebration on Saturday.
The event will include educational, historic, and entertainment activities throughout the day such as interpretive dancers, musicians, and poets.
Then on Sunday, the Museum of the Shenandoah Valley will celebrate with a performance from Souled Out, black owned food trucks, and a new exhibit sponsored by the NAACP titled “ Lest We Forget Museum of Slavery.”
Other exhibits include Contributions: African-Americans in the Shenandoah Valley and Danny Lyon: Memories of the Southern Civil Rights Movement.
