I mentioned yesterday that my boys would prefer not to eat zucchini, so I hide it in a heavy, quick bread. It got me to thinking could there be a phobia to vegetables? Turns out, there is; lachanophobia. It’s defined as an irrational or disproportionate fear of vegetables. It’s a recently described phobia, not appearing until around 2000. The word has it’s roots the Greek word, lachano, meaning garden herb or vegetable. So, when your kids tell you they don’t want to each their broccoli, maybe they have lachanophobia. Probably not, but anything is possible. I wonder if pushing green beans across a high chair tray toward your baby, like worms, could lead to lachnophobia. Open wide, here comes the choo choo! Great, now the kid won’t ride on trains. And yes, there is a phobia for that too. Stay tuned.
