HPD make arrest in August 20 shooting in Harrisonburg

The Harrisonburg Police Department (HPD) announced the arrest of a suspect in the August 20 shooting that injured a man in a vehicle.

North Carolina resident Timothy Leach has been charged with aggravated malicious wounding, shooting into an occupied vehicle and use of a firearm in commission of a felony.

The 43-year-old Leach is being held in the Middle River Regional Jail.

Police were initially called to the scene of the shooting at 10:45 p.m. August 20 where they found a 43 year old male in a vehicle suffering from a gunshot wound.

The victim was transported by air to UVA Medical Center where he was listed in stable condition.

Detectives believe the two men knew one another and Leach pulled up to the victim’s vehicle and shot multiple rounds but struck the victim only once.

Leach was tracked to a hotel in Augusta County by Virginia State Police, US Marshals Service agents and the Rush Drug Task Force.

With the execution of a search warrant a firearm was recovered, and Leach was arrested.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing at the time of this report.
