Winchester resident sees jail time for Capitol insurgents

Courthouse news is reporting that Winchester resident Edward Hemenway and his cousin Robert Bauer of Kentucky will be sentenced to 45 days in jail.

The pair received their sentence for their participation in the Jan. 6 insurgents at the U.S. Capitol.

Judge Tanya Chutkan told the pair yesterday Oct. 13 that incarceration was the only way to deter future violence.

Chutkan told the pair they were being punished for the decision to take the protest and turn it into a violent occupation of the U.S. Capitol.

The pairs criminal pasts was also taken into consideration in sentencing according to the report.

A total of 17 rioters have been sentenced so far out of 630 people facing criminal charges.
