Today is International Overdose Awareness Day and a few local organizations are hosting events to speak on the importance of sobriety and to remember those who have lost their lives to overdose.

13 people have died this year from an overdose in the Northwest Virginia Region.

The Northern Shenandoah Valley Substance Abuse Coalition will host an event in front of the Civil War Museum in Old Town Winchester from 6:30 pm to 9 pm.

There will be guest speakers, a candlelight remembrance ceremony, and resources on prevention, treatment and recovery of opioid use.

Rapid Revive Training will also be provided to learn how to stop an overdose.

The Northwestern Prevention Collaborative will also host an Overdose Awareness Day Vigil at the Front Royal Moose Lodge this evening from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm.

This event will also feature speakers, a vigil, and a resource fair on how to help those suffering from opioid addiction.
