Virginia State Police (VSP) and officials with the Attorney General’s office opened an investigation at Natural Bridge Zoo in Rockbridge County.

ABC news reports that authorities have executed a search warrant to investigate the conditions of the animals at the zoo.

Wednesday December 6 the zoo was cordoned off as both law enforcement and veterinarians inspected the zoo.

Suspected animal cruelty was cited as the reason for the investigation with no information given from Virginia’s Attorney General at this early stage of the investigation.

The office did state that this is an ongoing investigation by the Attorney General’s Animal Law Unit.

As of December 7 some animals have been removed from the facility with a 12-year-old white tiger named Zeus having been euthanized.

No official word yet on why the animal was put down.
