Intoxicated groomsmen shoots wedding guest at Historic Jordan Springs

Deputies of the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call on Saturday, December 9th, shortly after 7 pm regarding a subject threatening to shoot guests attending a wedding reception at Historic Jordan Springs.

Upon investigation, it was discovered that the suspect, John Morningstar, was a groomsman in the wedding who became overly intoxicated and was asked to leave.

While leaving, he made threats that he would return to the event and shoot everyone there.

Shortly after, Morningstar was spotted in the parking lot driving recklessly and doing donuts.

An attendee of the wedding, Kevin Huff, confronted Morningstar and was shot in the leg before the suspect fled the scene.

Deputies Vorous and Bridgeforth located the victim with the gunshot wound and administered aid until paramedics arrived.

Morningstar was pulled over at Jordan Springs Market and detained without incident.

During the traffic stop, officers discovered a gunshot wound on Morningstar’s foot which is believed to be self-inflicted.

Multiple firearms were located in his trunk with various ammunition, including the weapon involved in the shooting.

Both males were transported to Winchester Medical Center for non-life threatening injuries and were in stable condition.

Morningstar was charged with driving under the influence, malicious wounding, and two counts of reckless handling of a firearm.
