Navy Lt. dies in plane crash near Chincoteague

Navy Lieutenant Hyrum Hanlon operating out of the Naval Air Station in Norfolk died in the crash of an E-2D Advanced Hawkeye near Chincoteague.

Two other crew members were rescued from the crash and have non-lifethreatening injuries.

Hanlon was originally commissioned as a naval officer in 2017 and joined the squadron in Norfolk in 2021.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.

FCSO investigate a shooting in Frederick County

In an email from Lieutenant Warren Goznell of the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO) officials have identified a murder victim in a homicide.

On Thurs. Dec. 30 FCSO deputies responded to a shooting death in the 100 block of Dick’s Hollow Road.

The victim has now been identified as 32 year old Walter Ray Long Jr. of Valley Mill Road.

Homeowner Gerald Marple has been charged with being a felon in possession of a fire arm in the incident.

Marple could be facing more charges in the investigation.

Marple shot Long once after what appeared to be an altercation and assault.

42 year old Jeffery Brian Smith has also been arrested in relation to the assault on Marple.

The Warren County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) is assisting Royal Broadcasting with loading the Camping for Hunger bus starting Monday Nov. 15.

We spoke to Deputy Robbie Seal about where you can meet him to deliver your non perishable food donation in our latest news maker.

WPD announce promotions of Officers

The Winchester Police Department (WPD) announced the promotion of Lt. Wally Stotlemyer to the rank of Captain.

Stotlemyer has become the commander of the Department’s Patrol Division.

Both Jeff Feraro and Frank Myrtle were also promoted recently.

Feraro has been promoted to Sergeant and Myrtle promoted to Lieutenant.

Both Officers will be assigned and lead the Department’s midnight shift.
