Former police officer is sentenced for soliciting a minor

A former Winchester Police Officer is facing a sentence of 10 years in prison followed by five years of supervised release as he was convicted of attempting to solicit a minor.

Mark Samuel Baker of Gore Virginia was accused of attempted sex trafficking of a minor in Montana.

According to online court documents the investigation began with an undercover officer posing as a minor receiving messages from Baker attempting to recruit and solicit the minor to engage in commercial sex.

Even after being told, he was engaging with a minor Baker continued to connect back in July of 2022.

Baker eventually confirmed that he wanted sex in exchange for cash and a Billings Montana meeting place was arranged.

On arrival Baker was taken into custody with a two-day trial set back in September 2023.

The 57-year-old Baker was a Winchester Police Officer from 1988 to 1999 and was sentenced February 27 according to  documents.

Along with the 10 years incarceration a $250,000 fine could be imposed.
