Virginia State Police (VSP) report that John R. Raft of Perryville Maryland has been sentenced to 75 years in prison for his attempt to solicit someone he thought was a minor online.

The incident dates back to 2014 when the 42-year-old Raft was arrested in Maryland and extradited to Virginia.

Raft pleaded guilty to three counts of using a communications system to facilitate certain offenses involving children.

After Raft’s initial arrest he posted bond and attempted to flee to the Arab Republic of Egypt.

The Rockingham County Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office and VSP with others including Egyptian Authorities were able to locate Raft and bring him back to Virginia where he was sentenced on March 1.
