Shenandoah County teen charged with possession of explosives

A 14-year-old was charged with unlawful possession of explosives after the Shenandoah County Sheriff’s Office and Virginia State Police Bomb Squad executed a search warrant at a residence in the area of Dorel Drive, Maurertown.

Specifically, the boy was charged under state code 18.2-85: Manufacture or Possession of Firebomb, Explosive, etc.

Evidence recovered at the scene led to the charge, the sheriff’s office said March 8, adding that the teen is a student at a private school outside Shenandoah County.

The investigation is ongoing.

Thefts from vehicles at Maurertown Park investigated

The Shenandoah County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a string of larcenies from vehicles at Maurertown Park.

On Thursday afternoon, authorities received a report that four vehicles had been damaged and were missing items. The sheriff’s office said a black Jeep Wagoneer was seen leaving the park between 4:30 and 4:50 p.m. Thursday. A photo of the vehicle is available on the sheriff office’s Facebook page.
