State flags have been ordered at half staff

An email from Virginia Governor Northam ordered flags at half staff in honor of Big Stone Gap Police Officer Michael Chandler.

Social media post from Winchester and across the state announced that officers will be wearing shrouded badges for Chandler as well.

The Officer was fatally shot Sat. night Nov. 13 while conducting a well fare check in Big Stone Gap.

Chandler was found on the scene in a ditch and airlifted to the hospital where he succumbed to the injury.

Local, state and federal agencies launched a manhunt for the suspect.

A 33 year old Big Stone Gap man was apprehended later Sat. night in Kingsport Tennessee and charged in the incident.

Chandler was shot and killed on his 29 birthday.
