The National Zoo Conservation Biology Institute (NZCBI) in Front Royal announced the hatching of two endangered Blue Billed Curassows.

The two endangered birds that hatched at the NZCBI are doing well even through their mother did not seem to want to incubate or bond with the chicks.

The two eggs were incubated, hatched and cared for by institute personnel.

The first chick named Aluna was hatched Aug. 5 her sister Lulo hatched on Aug. 28.

The two have been taken to an off exhibit location to be cared for currently.

The current population at institutes is 73 including Lulo and Aluna.

Scientist estimate about 1,000 possibly 2,500 Blue Billed Curassows live in the wild.
