Navy Lieutenant Hyrum Hanlon operating out of the Naval Air Station in Norfolk died in the crash of an E-2D Advanced Hawkeye near Chincoteague.

Two other crew members were rescued from the crash and have non-lifethreatening injuries.

Hanlon was originally commissioned as a naval officer in 2017 and joined the squadron in Norfolk in 2021.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
