THE MILLBROOK HIGH PIONEERS HAVE ANNOUNCED SEVERAL COACHING MOVES. STEVE GRUBBS, WHO SERVED AS BOY’S BASKETBALL COACH, WILL BE LEAVING HIS POSITON. HE WILL BE RAPLACED BY GIRL’S BASKETBALL COACH ERICK GREEN, AND A SEARCH FOR A GIRLS COACH WILL BEGIN IMMEDIATEDLY.
WE’RE DOWN TO THE FINAL FOUR IN THE NCAA BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT AFTER YESTERDAY’S GAMES. SAN DIEGO STATE NIPPED CREIGHTON 57-56, WHILE MIAMI CAME FROM 13 DOWN TO BEAT TEXAS 88-81. THE AZTECS WILL NOW TAKE ON FLORIDA ATLANTIC IN ONE NATIONAL SEMI, WHILE THE CANES WILL PLAY UCONN IN THE OTHER SEMIFINAL. BOTH OF THOSE GAMES WILL BE PLAYED SATURDAY IN HOUSTON.
THE VIRGINIA TECH WILL TAKE ON OHIO STATE IN AN ELITE EIGHT GAME TONIGHT IN THE NCAA WOMEN’S BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT. TIP OFF IS SLATED FOR 9PM.
AND, SAM BURNS WON THE WGC MATCH PLAY CHAMPIONSHIP YESTERDAY, BEATING CAM YOUNG 6 AND 5 FOR HIS 5TH PGA TOUR WIN.

Hornets Scoreboard, Hokie & Mountie Women Eliminated,
On the SU sports slate yesterday, Field Hockey blanked Eastern Mennonite 8-0. Softball split a doubleheader with Potomac State, and Baseball won it’s eighth in a row. Today, Women’s Lacrosse hosts Mary Washington.
In the NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament, Virginia Tech was routed by 2-seed Baylor 90-48, while WVU was eliminated by Georgia Tech 73-56. The NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament resumes this weekend with the Sweet Sixteen.
In the NBA, the Washington Wizards fell to the New York Knicks 131-113. Bradley Beal led the 15-27 Wiz with 22.
And, it looks like the name Washington Football Team will be used again this season while the team still tries to decide on a new name. But team president Jason Wright said in an ESPN interview that they may stick with “Washington Football Team.” Wright said that fans have warmed to the name.

SU Schedule, Sweet Sixteen Now Set, WVU & Va Tech Women Play Tonight
On the Shenandoah University sports schedule today, Softball hosts Potomac State, Baseball plays at W&L, and Field Hockey hosts eastern Mennonite.
Meanwhile, Hornet Baseball swept the ODAC awards this week. Sophomores Pearce Bucher and Tad Dean, both Sherando grads, were named ODAC Player & Pitcher Of The Week, respectively.
The Sweet Sixteen in the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament are now set after last night’s games. Among those advancing were number-one seeds Michigan and Gonzaga, while Oregon ousted 2-seed Iowa. Alabama routed Maryland, while USC took out 3-seed Kansas. Play in the NCAA Tournament resumes Saturday.
And, both Virginia Tech and WVU play second-round games tonight in the NCAA Women’s Tournament. The 7-seed Hokies take on 2-seed baylor at 7, while the 4th seeded Mountaineers play 5th seed Georgia Tech.

SU Scoreboard, Bracket-Busting Weekend In The NCAA Tourney, VT And WVU Women Advance
On the Shenandoah University Athletics scoreboard yesterday, Lynchburg took down Women’s Soccer 5-1, Men’s Soccer played Randolph to a 1-1 draw, Women’s Golf had a runner-up finish at the Max & Susan Stith Invitational in Richmond, while Men’s Golf finished 25th in the Jekyll Island Invitational.
On Friday, football went toe-to-toe with undefeated Randolph-Macon before falling 52-38 at Shentel Stadium. Next up for the Hornets, a 7pm Friday kickoff at Bridgewater.
No SU athletic events are scheduled for today.
Eight teams advanced to the Sweet Sixteen yesterday in the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament, and there were plenty of upsets. Number-one seed Illinois was eliminated by Loyola-Chicago 71-58. 3-seed WVU was taken down by 11-seed Syracuse 75-72. Oral Roberts, a 15-seed, defeated 7-seed Florida 81-78, and 12-seed Oregon State sent 4-seed Oklahoma State packing with an 80-70 win. Over the weekend, UVA was upset by Ohio. 8 games are on tap today.
In the NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament, Virginia Tech advanced to the second round with a 70-63 win over Marquette, while the WVU Women routed Lehigh 77-53.
In other sports, Ryan Blaney won the NASCAR Cup event in Atlanta, while Australian Matt Jones won the PGA Tour Honda Classic.

SU Scoreboard, Caps Rout Sabres, NCAA Women’s Field Set
On the Shenandoah University scoreboard yesterday, Women’s Golf competed in the Johnson & Wales Spring Invitational in North Carolina. Freshman Alex Pallozzi is in 15th place after her opening round 100. Meanwhile, Women’s Tennis was shut out by Sweet Briar. Today, Field Hockey travels to Randolph-Macon, while Women’s Volleyball hosts Virginia Wesleyan.
The Washington Capitals continued their winning ways with a 6-0 rout of Buffalo. Six different Caps lit the lamp, including Alex Ovechkin, while Vitek Vanecek stopped 23 Sabres shots to get the shutout. Next up for the Capitals, a 7pm skate tonight against the Islanders. Air time is 6:45 on The River 95-3.
And, the NCAA Women’s Basketball tournament bracket is set. Virginia Tech gets a 7-seed and will play Marquette on Sunday. VCU earned a 13-seed and will take on Indiana on Monday. WVU is a 4-seed and plays Lehigh on Sunday night. The top 4 seeds are UConn, Stanford, South Carolina, and NC State.
