Man hunt causes shelter in place in UVA neighborhood for 5 and half hours

Virginia State Police (VSP) report that a man hunt causes shelter in place in University of Virginia (UVA) neighborhood for better than 5 and a half hours.

The incident began February 25 at approximately 8:13 a.m.

A state trooper spotted a Chevrolet Impala in the Frontier Avenue area with an expired inspection sticker.

The suspect did not stop for the officer and pursuit began onto the Route 29 exit at Ivy Road.

The vehicle struck two vehicles as the suspect exited while it was moving, and it rolled into a trooper’s cruiser.

The individual identified as 19-year-old Nyeem R. Hill.

Hill has multi malicious wounding, malicious wounding by mob and gang activity warrants against him out of Albemarle County.

During the pursuit a shelter in place order was issued for the UVA and surrounding neighborhood.

During the man hunt a perimeter was set up until approximately 1:45 p.m.

Information was received at that time that Hill was no longer in the vicinity.

Authorities canceled the shelter in place and classes resumed at the university at approximately 1:50 p.m.

Authorities continue to search for Hill who is described as a 19-year-old African American male standing 6 feet one inch tall last seen wearing dark pants and a grey hoodie.

The hoodie was discarded and found during the man hunt.

Anyone seeing Hill is advised to not approach but call law enforcement.
