Shentel expands high speed internet for Page County

Shenandoah Telecommunications Company (Shentel) announces the expansion of high speed internet access to homes in Page, Orange and Barbour Counties.

New communication towers with a fixed wireless broadband service called beam is now capable of providing high speed internet service to those areas.

The new service could provide service to over 1,600 households once implemented.

News Maker Brian Caviness on Nat. Night Out Page County

National Night Out is an opportunity to meet and greet Law Enforcement and First Responders in out area.

Today we spoke to News Maker Deputy Caviness of the Page County Sheriff’s Office as to what we can expect in Page County on Aug. 3.

Deputy Caviness told us of the plans to be held in both Stanley as well as Luray.

The Deputy explained that Shenandoah Virginia Police hope to have a K9 demonstration.

There may also be a helicopter on hand for the event.

Authorities respond to hostage situation in Luray

An armed hostage situation led to a multi agency officer shooting in Luray yesterday Jun. 22.

Two people reported they were being held hostage in a Main Street Convenience store.

The suspect De’Shone J. Hill of Luray refused commands to surrender.

The 39 year old Hill eventually came out but pointed a long gun at officers.

Again failing to surrender Hill was shot and killed at the scene.

No other injuries were reported in the incident as it remains under investigation.

Luray Police arrest a Maryland fugitive

Luray Police

The Luray Police Department (LPD) arrested a Maryland fugitive who was wanted on 6 felony warrants.

John B. Settle was arrested after Luray Police responded to a home being broken into on Woodland Ave.

It was also reported that shots were being fired.

Settle faces local charges of possession of a firearm by a felon, shooting into an occupied dwelling and attempted malicious wounding.

The investigation continues with other charges possible along with charges from Maryland.

Respiratory care returns to the facility as well.

The consolidation creates one Valley Health provider group in Luray specializing in family and internal medicine.

Consolidating on site laboratory services and access to hospital based imaging and services all under one roof.

Walk ins have resumed with new patients welcome with extended hours provided as well.

PCSO reports catalytic converter thefts

Multiple reports of stolen catalytic converters have come into the Page County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO).

Most of the thefts have occurred at night under the cover of darkness.

Sheriff Cubbage is urging the public to watch for anything suspicious and report it immediately at (540) 743-6571.
