FCSO warns of new scam

Frederick County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO) would like to remind residents that at no time will the Sheriff’s Office ask for money over the phone, nor will they ask for a gift card for payment.

If you receive a call from someone stating they are Chris Peterson with the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office stating you have a warrant, this is a scam.

If you have any questions about a call you received from someone stating, they are with the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office
please hang up and call the office directly to verify.

Be vigilant this holiday season for scammers

Tis the season for scammers.

Because of artificial intelligence, borderless currency, and the internet, more people than ever before are trying to hustle, steal, and defraud, the Federal Trade Commission warns.

The convenience of doing all your business online creates more
opportunities for scammers.

If someone calls from a company or non-profit, don’t assume they
actually represent that institution.

Call the organization’s main number.

Never open attachments or links in unsolicited email or direct messages.

Call the sender and confirm their legitimacy.

Don’t hesitate to ask questions, and don’t send money.

Be vigilant.

It is now cheap and easy to impersonate someone’s voice and to create digital photographs and videos that seem real.

Do not believe everything you see.

Verify before taking any actions.

FCSO continues to fight fraud and scams

phone scam warning

The Frederick County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO) continues to fight fraud and scams.

Once again offering warnings about recent phone calls or emails that have been reported.

Reportedly the caller is seeking funds to cover a supposed fine for warrants or criminal charges.

Some callers even suggest that your identity has been stolen with the best way to secure it is with a gift card.

The FCSO reminds us that there is no government agency or its members that would ever make a call or email like this.

If you do receive one hang up block or deleted the source and report it.
