FRPD investigate possible human trafficking

The Front Royal Police Department (FRPD) is investigating a possible human trafficking case.

The FRPD announced in a news release that they have arrested 23 year old Florida resident William Chase Mathews.

The investigation leading to the arrest regarded an adult who is suspected of having sexual relations with a juvenile.

Investigators uncovered additional information and evidence of possible human trafficking.

Further investigation revealed that  Mathews was providing housing for the juvenile and acting as her caretaker.

Mathews and the 15 year old met online before he moved to Front Royal from Florida to take care of the her.

Mathews is being held without bond with a court date of June 9.

Authorities are asking that anyone with any additional information to contact FRPD Detective M.R. Ramey at (540) 636-2208.

FRPD Chief Magalis reminds parents to always be aware of their child’s online activity and report anything suspicious.
