Winchester installs additional pedestrian safety measures

Winchester announced the installation of 45 raised crosswalks throughout the city to slow traffic and improve pedestrian safety.

The raised crosswalks are primarily being placed in school walk zones and areas of significant concern involving speeding.

These new crosswalks will be painted with white arrows with indicator signs.

The raised crosswalks are expected to be completely installed by early April.

The raised crosswalks are part of several measures to improve driver, pedestrian, and bicyclist safety around the city.

Other measures include Police Department operations to discourage distracted driving and speeding.

School zone cameras are another measure to help protect citizens.

The City of Winchester Council approved these measures in the fall of 2023.
