VA. unemployment rate falls for 17 month straight

An email from Governor Northam states that Virginia’s unemployment rate dropped for the 17 month in a row.

The rate for Oct. fell to 3.6 percent in October which is 2.5 percentage points below the rate from one year ago.

Numbers indicate that this is the lowest unemployment rate since the COVID-19 pandemic began.

The seasonal rate continues to be below the national rate of 4.6 percent.

Gov. Northam went on in the email to state that the trend is the result of careful fiscal management and extensive work to make Virginia a welcoming and open place.

Northam added that the approach has served Virginia well and continuing it will deliver further economic gains for the Commonwealth.
