U.S. Marshals assist with recovery of a child in Berkeley County

The Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office contacted the U.S. Marshals service to assist in the search for a man wanted in connection with a child’s disappearance.

According to the press release from the U.S. Marshals Office a warrant was issued for the arrest of Johnte Fitzhugh for felony concealment or removal of a minor child from a custodian.

The U.S. Marshals Mountain State Fugitive Task Force was almost immediately able to locate Fitzhugh and began the process of arrest of the fugitive and recovery of the missing child.

Fitzhugh was located in the 100 block of Wayne Place Southeast in Washington D.C.

Authorities notified the U.S. Marshals Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force who arrested Fitzhugh and recovered the missing child safely.

The fact that the fugitive and missing child were located within 24 hours of the warrant being issued is the direct result of the relationship the U.S. Marshals Office has with the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office.

That relationship continues to impact the community in a positive manner according to Terry Moore acting U.S. Marshal for the Northern District of West Virginia.

Since 2015 the U.S. Marshals Service have assisted in the recovery of over 2,300 missing children.
