Fort Loudoun Day in Winchester

History lovers are invited to Fort Loudoun Day today in Winchester.

Guests and participants will meet at the original site of the Fort on N Loudoun Street.

The Day encampment will feature tents and flys, displays, demonstrations, and drills from 10 am – 4:30 pm.

There will not be a tactical battle but some live shooting will occur.

The French and Indian War Day Encampment welcomes the George Mercer Company of the Virginia regiment, Rutherford’s Rangers, and Massaw Howard, an author and amateur archaeologist who will discuss his books and Native American artifacts.

News Maker Gary Rinkerman on Cedar Creek reenactment

This weekend Oct. 16 and 17 the Cedar Creek Battlefield Foundation will hold their civil war reenactment in Middletown.

We spoke with the foundation’s vice president Gary Rinkerman about the two day event in our latest news maker segment.

Gary relays how important the reenactment is to those who participate and how authentic the event is.

Patriot Pride Day in Middletown

christmas parade canceled

The town of Middletown is holding their 5th annual Patriot Pride Day today starting at 2 pm.

This free event will be held at the Middletown Veterans’ Memorial.

There will be presentations from local historians on topics like Colonial America, Loyalists and Tories in Colonial America, General Nathaniel Greene and the origins of the 2nd amendment.

Reenactments will also be held with one at 3 pm and the other at 5:30 pm.

A folding of the flag ceremony will conclude the day’s events.

Fireworks originally planned to end the evening have been rescheduled for Middletown’s 225th anniversary in October.
