In an email from the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) it was announced that they are prepared for winter weather.
VDOT has conducted several dry runs in the summer and early fall and stock piled supplies for removal and melt.
Contractors are already in place to assist with snow removal as well.
The snow expected tonight Dec. 7 and 8 is likely to be left on the grass in the low laying valley areas but could cause slick spots on roadways especially in the upper elevations.
VDOT Chief of Maintenance and Operations Kevin Gregg stated in the email that the crews learned new processes during the pandemic.
Those lessons are learned and will be utilized this season.
When it snows two inches or more VDOT activates their online snow plow tracking map right here.
