VSP update Thursday’s RV crash

The Virginia State Police provided updates on their investigation of the accident involving an RV that collided with a tractor trailer that shutdown I-66 for 8 hours Sept. 8 to Sept. 9.

An email from Virginia State Police Public Information Officer Sergeant Brent Coffey confirms 2 deaths in the accident.

The driver of the RV, Ifreke Inyang, 25, of Houston Texas, was taken to the hospital for minor injuries.

Two passengers, Lenisha T. Simon, 39, and Brenda M. Oyervides, 24, also from Houston, died at the scene.

Another passenger was flown to INNOVA Fairfax for treatment of life threatening injuries.

Four other passengers and the driver of the tractor trailer suffered minor injuries and were transported to local hospitals.

None of the passengers in the RV were wearing a seat belt.

Inyang was charged with reckless driving and driving without a valid license.

The crash remains under investigation.
