VSP ready for Thanksgiving weekend holiday travel

A press release from Virginia State Police (VSP) suggest patients and safety is key for Thanksgiving Holiday travel.

The VSP and American Automobile Association (AAA) predict that 1.4 million Virginians will be traveling this weekend.

The VSP reminds drivers that operation Crash Awareness and Reduction Effort (CARE) will begin at midnight Wednesday lasting through midnight Sunday.

This means there will be  increased visibility and enforcement by State and local authorities looking for any violation.

Over the 2020 Thanksgiving holiday almost 5,000 speeding citations were issued, close to 2,000 reckless drivers were charged and 67 drivers were found to be under the influence.

12 traffic fatalities were recorded in 2020 as well.

Law enforcement across the state are looking to reduce those numbers in 2021 so please use caution on the roadways.
