News Maker Ford Carson explains the new 826 area code
/

New area code for much of the state of VA.

The State Corporation Commission (SCC) announced that starting November 13th 10 digit dialing will have to be done for all Virginians living in the 540 area code.

This will begin the phasing in of the new area code of 826 over the next six months.

The 540 area code encompasses Frederick, Warren, Clarke, Page Counties as well as Harrisonburg, Blacksburg, Culpeper, Fredricksburg areas and others.

The implementation of the 826 area code is due to the 540 area code running out of numbers.

Any new numbers added in the northwestern and southwestern portions of Virginia will be assigned the 826 area code.

Complete implementation of the new area code is expected by June 14, 2022.
