News Maker Joe Proctor on SABF new parade division

Shenandoah Apple Blossom Festival (SABF) has added new events and categories to the 95 festival.

Shenandoah Caverns is the sponsor of the newly added Heroes Division to the Grand Feature Parade on Apr. 30.

We spoke with Shenandoah Caverns’ General Manager Joe Proctor about the new division in our latest news maker.

Joe tells us what Shenandoah Caverns does to create floats that will fit the streets of Winchester for the parade.

He also tells us about the floats that are in the America Celebration on Parade that are at Shenandoah Caverns.

Joe also tells us the size of those floats and how the Caverns uses them as a blueprint for the floats that will be made especially for the Grand Feature Parade for the SABF.

Henrico Police Officer dies after accident

Henrico County Police confirmed in an announcement the death of  Officer Trey Marshall Sutton.

The Officer died from injuries sustained in an accident that occurred Wed. Mar. 30 on U.S. Route 301 in Henrico County.

The accident occurred while Sutton and his partner were returning from a service call with a man in their custody.

The 3 vehicle accident injured all three men in the police vehicle.

The accident remains under investigation with the other two men in the police vehicle  hospitalized in critical condition.

Sutton was 24 years old and became an Henirco Police Officer in June of 2021 graduating the police academy in Feb. 2022.

FCSO warns of spam messages

Frederick County Sheriff’s Office announced a warning from Verizon about a phishing scam.

It seems that Verizon Customers are reportedly receiving a spam message from their own phone number.

The message encourages you to click a link to receive a free gift.

Verizon reports that they are working with Law Enforcement to block the messages.

Verizon is also encouraging Law Enforcement to identify and stop the source of the fraudulent activity.

In the meantime it is important that you not click the link that is provided in the text.

You should verify any link sent in a text message before clicking it.

The 95 Shenandoah Apple Blossom Festival (SABF) is set to begin Apr.22 with a full slate of events this year.

We spoke with SABF Marketing Director Dario Savarese in our latest news maker.

Dario tells us how everyone involved with the festival is ready to bring a full slate of activities this year after the pandemic.

News Maker Todd Jones on tonight’s 3/29 board meeting

Tonight Mar. 29 the Warren County Board of Supervisors will hold a meeting at the Government Building on Commerce Ave. Front Royal at 7.

There are a number of items that the board faces in the next few sessions.

We spoke to Warren County’s Technical Director Todd Jones about some of the issues in our latest news maker.

Shenandoah Apple Blossom 2022

A Shenandoah Apple Blossom Festival (SABF) press release reveals two more guest added to the 95 Festival.

Former 2 time Washington Football Player and Podcast Commentator Fred Smoot will be speaking at the Sports Breakfast and riding in the Grand Feature Parade Apr. 30.

Joining Fred will be Former NASCAR Crew Chief and Emmy Award Winning Analyst Jeff Hammond who will also speak at the Sports Breakfast and ride in the Grand Feature Parade.

These two newly announced sports celebrities will join Julius “Dr. J” Erving, Tony Dorsett and Terry Bradshaw.

The Sports Breakfast is one of the biggest events of the SABF and tickets traditionally sell out quickly.

Dr. Eric Bond named Superintendent of the year

school security equipment grants

An email from Augusta County Public Schools confirms that Superintendent Dr. Eric Bond has been named Superintendent of the year for region 5.

Region 5 consist of 20 school divisions that make up the valley region.

Bond has been Superintendent of Augusta County schools since 2014 and has served on the Virginia General Assembly Joint Committee to Study the Future of Public Education.

Being selected Superintendent of the year for region 5 puts Bond in the running for the Virginia superintendent of the year award.

Superintendents from eight regions are competing for that honor.

The winner will be announced at the Association of School Superintendent Luncheon in Roanoke on May 2.

Reports of Avian Flu have been recorded in parts of  Virginia affecting both wild birds and backyard flocks.

We spoke with Blue Ridge Wildlife Center (BRWC) veterinarian Jen Riley about necessary precautions in our latest news maker.

SABF announce Sports Marshal for 95 Festival

Shenandoah Apple Blossom Festival (SABF) representatives have announced the Sports Marshal for the 95 Festival.

“Dr. J”, Julius Winfield Erving will attend this year’s festival and speak at the annual Sports Breakfast at the James R. Wilkins Jr. Athletics and Events Center at Shenandoah University.

Erving has been named one of the top 40 most important athletes of all time by Sports Illustrated.

Erving is not just well known and respected on the basketball court he is also a respected executive and entrepreneur.

He is currently the founder and managing member of Erving Global Opportunity LLC.

Erving will speak at 8:00 a.m. on Apr. 30 at the Sports Breakfast and then ride in the grand feature parade later that day.
