VSP investigate school bus accident in Rockingham County

Virginia State Police are investigating a crash involving a school bus in Rockingham County on Friday, December 8th at 7:49 am.

A Rockingham County Public School bus traveling east on Route 689 stopped at a stop sign and then attempted to turn left onto Route 276.

While turning, it pulled into the path of a 2000 Dodge Dakota traveling south.

The Dodge could not avoid the collision and struck the bus on the driver’s side.

The driver of the school bus, Amanda Carini, 44, of Broadway, was not injured in the crash.

46 students were on board at the time of the crash.

Five suffered from minor injuries and were taken to Sentara RMH Medical Center for treatment.

The driver of the Dodge, Dennis Michael, 66, of Penn Laird, suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene.

He was wearing a seatbelt during the accident.

Carini was charged with reckless driving and the crash remains under investigation.
