Authorities respond to a gas line explosion in Shenandoah Co.

Shortly before 9 a.m. July 25 emergency personnel responded to a gas pipeline explosion that occurred near Fisher’s Hill.

The explosion caused a brief shutdown of Battlefield and Copp Road as well as Interstate 81 near Strasburg.

The fire was contained approximately an hour later once the gas to the pipeline was shut off and firefighters were able to approach the scene.

There were no injuries reported in the explosion according to Shenandoah County Fire and Rescue’s report.

The Shenandoah County Sheriff’s Office reports that no homes, or any structures were being threatened by the fire at any time.

The pipeline near Battlefield and Copp Road is property of TC Energy of Strasburg.

The incident is still being investigated with more details expected at the conclusion of that investigation.
