The Shenandoah County Fire Marshal’s Office (SCFMO) confirmed in a press release that they have concluded an arson investigation from 2019.

As a result of the investigation the Virginia Chapter of the International Association of Arson Investigators (IAAI) and SCFMO have recognized and rewarded Maria Salazar.

Salazar was rewarded $3,000 for providing information that led to the arrest of Andrew Tupin of Round Hill.

The information provided to Salazar by Tupin included details that could only be known to Law Enforcement and the person who committed the crime.

Salazar went to authorities the day after Tupin confessed the information to her which led to his arrest.

The March 2019 fire Tupin is accused of setting caused $240,000 property and contents damage to a Toms Brook home.

The house fire was reported by one of the three occupants of the home on March 12, 2019, at 2:20 a.m.

Without Salazar going to Authorities with the information the crime may have gone unsolved.

The IAAI has offered rewards of up to $5,000 for information involving suspected arson.
