SCFR respond to a fallen and injured hiker
Shenandoah County Fire and Rescue (SCFR) with the Strasburg Fire Department (SFD) report responding to a fallen and injured hiker.
The unidentified victim had taken a significant fall down a rock ledge at Buzzard Rock Trail.
The 54-year-old male was bleeding from his head and was found to be in and out of consciousness.
Around 1:30 in the afternoon Nov. 13 a staging area was established in the Buzzard Rock trail parking area with several fire companies reporting to the scene.
A request for help was sent to the U.S. Park Police Helicopter Eagle 1 unit as well.
High winds prevented Eagle 1 from being used.
After evaluation of the victim it was found he suffered from a severe head laceration, possible facial fractures with a possible fractured arm.
Crews transported the injured man by Stokes basket to a UTV.
Just past 7 the patient was transported to Warren County Airport where Aircare 6 transported him to UVA Medical Center.
In all 12 units of first responders reported to help in the incident.
